Through zazen you express your true nature, and that is all. It is not that everything that lives has Buddha nature, but that everything is Buddha nature.

After reading Daphne Merkin’s A Journey Through Darkness in today’s New York Times Magazine, I was left contemplating Buddhist viewpoints on treating depression. It’s no secret that many.

According to Buddhist doctrine, however, the self as we know it is merely an illusion. This blog considers how a strong sense of self can be a root cause of depression, and how the elimination of the ego should be considered a crucial step on the path to recovery.
